A classic of the US barbershops. Makes the scalp and face freeze.
Osage Rub is a popular instant refreshment for the scalp and face, especially in the hot summer months. The cooling effect is really intense and lasts a long time. Osage Rub was already in US barbershops around 1900.
Osage Rub" (pronounced: Ossitsch Rapp) was one of the most widespread hair tonics in America at the end of the 19th century. It was soon also used as a cooling aftershave. Translated, "Osage Rub" roughly means "ointment of the Osage Indians". The Osage tribe was settled in the Southern Plains / USA and related to the Pawnee Indians, who are known to us as merciless killers from the film "Dances with Wolves" and who make the blood run cold just by looking at them.
The effect
The Osage Rub is - just as merciless - intended as a cooling and invigorating tonic for the scalp and face. Osage Rub" lives up to the name of the Osage tribe. In forums it is described with just one word: FREEEEZING!!! And that is exactly what it is. The Osage Rub cools and burns for more than 15-30 minutes on every spot it comes into contact with. Even if it gets under rings, it tingles for hours after. It should therefore be kept away from eyes (and of course from children).
Osage Rub is even said to provide relief from mosquitoes, mosquito bites, tiredness or headaches. It can also be used as a shaving water, but it is only recommended on very hot days, as it freezes the freshly shaved skin like pure ice water. It does not contain any skin moisturising ingredients such as glycerine, but it does not leave the skin feeling dry either.
Osage Rub has become a popular coolant on hot days and more and more fans are even taking it with them on trips to hot countries. With a breeze or a fresh breeze, the cooling effect intensifies to a wonderful relief.
The fragrance
In the barbershops (US hairdressing salons), Osage Rub always stood next to Jeris Hair Tonic, which it resembles in its green colour and which it also smells like at first: mild, sweet-powdery. However, Osage Rub is laced with a heavy dose of menthol and eucalyptus, which rank third and fourth among the ingredients, right after water and alcohol. When applied, it smells strongly like menthol snuff. The scent fades slowly, the cooling or burning effect remains for a long time.
Application
As a hair tonic, place the bottle directly on the scalp and spray a couple of shots on two or three areas of the head. Then massage in well. At first you don't feel anything, then you hear an increasing tingling sensation until your head feels as if you have put it into a bucket of ice water.
As a facial tonic, put a dash of Osage Rub in the palm of your hand, rub it a little between the palms first and then apply it to the cheeks, neck and nape of the neck. Avoid the eye area. Apply carefully to the forehead so that nothing gets into the eyes, otherwise it will burn.
The Hair Tonic is packaged in a clear plastic bottle with a white screw cap.
